Have your tastebuds tantalised and green fingers inspired as we explore the wide range of tastes and textures found in a bunch of green leaves. Herbs express their unique uses in their distinct taste – some bitter, some sweet, some pungent and some peppery.

Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler and craftsmanship was treasured. We’ll kick off the workshop in the Soetmelksvlei heritage garden with guidance from food historian, Hetta van Deventer-Terblanche.

Here, we’ll gather some herbs from the garden to chop and pound in the kitchen and incorporate these into fresh and seasonal treats to enjoy. Remember to bring along a hat for a fun day in the garden.

After a hands-on morning in the farm air, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before heading back to Babylonstoren.
