Green fig preserve is one of the most sought-after and versatile preserves in the collective South African pantry – delicious with anything from aged cheese to Christmas cakes and a myriad of other sweet bakes. Join us in the Soetmelksvlei kitchen as we celebrate these seasonal gems.
Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler and craftsmanship was treasured. Here, farm foodie Louzel Steyn will teach you the art of preserving your own green figs.
Put on your sunhat and comfortable walking shoes for this workshop as we’ll be heading into the garden and farm orchards to pick our own early, unripe green figs.
After an exciting morning, a hearty lunch will be served at the Old Stables Restaurant.
